Rare, precious, profound, can’t begin to describe the Maui Retreat experience. We all search for our own” little piece of heaven”, and this beautifully landscaped, enchanting property, in lush tropical nature, exquisitely decorated with artifacts from around the world that make you feel like you’ve visited all their origins in a day, gives you so much more than any luxury Eco-resort.
To begin with, the owners Kutira and Raphael, are two of the most creative, talented, inspiring individuals you can ever be privileged to meet. They are pure delight openly sharing their wealth of information and what they have spent the last 20 years of their lives creating as a tribute to Eco-friendly sustainable living at its best. It is rare to vacation in a spot where there are so many special treasures available inside that you don’t ever want to go out of the gate. As for scenic nature adventures, the breathtaking journey down the cliffs to the sea rewards you not only with a fantastic swim in the ocean but a little further along the trail will take you to the spectacular waterfalls and pools. The intricately carved and decorated temples are the perfect spot for meditation or quiet reflection. This land is sacred; you feel its healing touch your body and soul just walking barefoot across the grass or sitting in the silent jungle areas serenaded by so many birds. For me this was the greatest gift of this magical place, you don’t have to “do” anything, though there are Yoga classes and massage available. The land heals you just basking in her natural beauty and serene stillness being caressed by gentle ocean breezes. It’s a place you feel grateful every moment that you found it and know that you will never be able to stay away for too long.

We recently spent 5 days on this magical land. This is not your typical hotel or motel. This is sacred space. This is land that has been loved by the very hands of people you want to know. This is land that you want to walk barefoot on to soak up the deep rich fertile soil into your soul. We rented the cottage and it was beyond our expectations. My sister, and 5-year-old son, and I melted into this lovely home. Made meals that nourished our bodies. Woke up early to meditate in the music temple, do yoga, dive in waterfall pools. We left the property one day to “go to the beach” — All we could do was talk about getting back to the land. Honestly, if I could marry all over, I would get married here. I plan to come back – for a month – and be here. The location is ideal (i.e. feel like you are in HANA but you are actually close to Paia) — and to have the opportunity to rest your sweet head in a home built from LOVE (they are magical spaces, furnished to the utmost of intention) — gorgeous altars, lovely people quietly surrounding, this is the place. I will return, for sure — hopefully soon.
And I will never stay at a resort on Maui again, this is my home away from home. Mahalo. From my heart, thank you for inspiring my 5-year-old to be present, courageous, one with the earth. Even my little sister (nearly 30) will never be the same. MY LOVE TO YOU. Katy, Sairey and Noah Sky.

“The greenest place on Maui! This place is healing… there is no other way to put it! Enjoy the fresh coconut water from the land, a community of folks who always greet you with a smile, and access to one of the best kept secret spots with all the views 😍 This is a place you don’t want to leave, and you promise yourself you will return to. Worth every penny.”

Words cannot describe the sheer beauty and peacefulness that is this place. Waking up each morning in this sacred temple to a beautiful vista of the ocean was the greatest treat. Kutira and Raphael were the best hosts. Their warmth and inviting nature truly made the trip so enjoyable and memorable. You don’t even need to leave the property to experience what Maui is all about…truly an amazing experience. We will be back… Thank you for everything!

Kutira, Raphael, and their staff are kind and welcoming hosts who have manifested a unique vision of alternative, eco-conscious travel. Maui Eco Retreat is situated on land that is private, calm, and amazingly beautiful. You will discover a private waterfall and pools, breathtaking views high above the ocean, land that is lush with plant and animal life, and calm spaces for peaceful reflection or meditation. Each room in the Opua house has a unique theme with carefully selected pieces of art and world cultural objects. This place will be your home for a few days; make of it what you will. You can unwind by meditating or by enjoying a glass of wine while surrounded by lush flora. Whatever pleases you. Everything about my visit was wonderful. In sum: if you seek an environmentally progressive place to stay, and if you wish for an unforgettably beautiful setting, then Maui Eco Retreat is a dream realized.

A wonderful gem just off the Hana Highway. Even driving in, we felt like we were going on a jungle safari, which was a blast. The accommodations are charming and include themed rooms with beautiful artifacts and a well-appointed and organized kitchen for cooking. Some highlights included finding and eating fresh lilikoi (passion fruits), playing with their sweet dogs, hiking down to the ocean and to an immense waterfall, and meditating in the Music Temple. We had originally planned on driving to Hana but enjoyed The Land so much that we just stayed there and explored. Extra points for a kind and helpful staff and the eco-consciousness built into every facet of this imaginative and wonderful place.

Sublimely wonderful. The gardens are like an orchestra of exotic naturalness. Exploring barefoot in the friendly soft jungle is the way to go! Waterfalls and pools (on the property) are breathtaking. Clean and unique rooms and kitchen with museum-like charm and character. Lovely staff and you’ll meet fascinating people, no doubt about it!

The cottage at Maui eco-retreat was a wonderful place to stay for our honeymoon. When Raphael met us and showed us the place he said ” this is the real Maui” and we agreed pure Maui magic, beautiful sunrises from the bed wonderful and adventurous trails to waterfalls. You can tell this land has been loved and cared for within sacred blessings

The Maui Eco Retreat is located in the beautiful jungles near Haiku and is truly a hidden gem. We loved how private and zen the retreat was. There’s a great energy about the place and Kutira & Raphael’s peaceful intention in its conception is clearly evident in all that makes up the retreat. From numerous gorgeous statues scattered around the property to various mediation temples and a donation-based yoga class, the place is the definition of bliss and a nice break from the typical beach hotel. In fact, Kutira & Raphael even greeted us personally when we checked in which was a very nice touch. We stayed at the eco-bamboo house and it was like having our own home in the middle of the jungle with a view of the ocean! There are nice beaches pretty close by and Haiku and Paia are cool towns to get supplies and eat out. Hana isn’t that far either and the retreat serves as a good launch point for that journey.

Magical. Raphael told us to “feel our feet” while we were there. He means this poetically (for you really do feel that the beautiful land you walk on is sacred) but also as a precautionary measure. The lagoon is beautiful and made even more so by the challenging trail it takes to get there. This is no paved tourist spot made for those who want their memorable moments served to them poolside. This is a place where you walk the land and earn the moments you’ll remember forever. Bamboo gardens, lagoons on top of waterfalls, and beautiful statues hidden throughout. Highly recommended would be an understatement.

An absolutely amazing place! The property is one of a kind… Serenity and natural beauty abound. The land is alive here! Super lush jungle all around with cool breeze from the ocean and occasional warm rain, truly a refreshing contrast to the hotter and drier west shores of Maui. The people that run this place are very special, very attuned to the earth and to people, and they know how to make you feel comfortable. We were welcomed with open arms and treated to a very uniquely personal introduction to the retreat and the bamboo cottage itself. The temple is amazing! There is nothing quite like waking up to the sun rising at your feet! Truly moving experiences around every corner here as we explored the trails on the property that wind through the jungle. Discovering waterfalls, and stunning ocean cliff views and the bounty of exotic plants and wildlife were all important facets of this trip. Their 5 days recommended stay is for a reason, I could feel myself unwinding and melting into this serene space as the days went on and I don’t think it would have the same impact if our stay were any shorter. Being here was like living another life on another planet, one that I cannot wait to return to. If you are looking to escape the ordinary, and find a peaceful space in which to truly be, the Maui Eco Retreat is highly recommended!!

Our stay at Maui Eco Retreat (Indian Room) was awesome! The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the room was large and very comfortable, and the property was absolutely beautiful (even with its own waterfall and beach access!!). The added bonus is that the property is eco friendly! The location is a bit further out of Kahului so you will need your own transport but this place is perfect for those wanting to escape the crowds and experience the ‘real’ Maui. Groceries, restaurants, laundry mat are only 15min drive away in Haiku. We can’t recommend Maui Eco Retreat enough! Thanks, guys!

Maui Eco Retreat is truly a paradise on earth! Kutira and Raphael have worked their life’s sustainable mission into this sacred land. Completely off the grid, the solar energy and underground water heating system (always more than enough hot water), along with their bamboo farm and housing is in alignment with the earth’s green movement, and they offered this long before it became popular amongst the mainstream. Maui Retreat offers the tranquility and visual picturesque that few places in the world can aspire to – and with such abundance! Language seems trite in trying to verbalize this amazing experience – watch their video. From doing yoga at sunrise to visiting the temples, the ocean, lagoons, and the incredible waterfalls, Maui Retreat is the most profound and spiritual place I have ever visited. You feel it from the moment you arrive, and for me, it has been life-changing. We stayed at the Cottage overlooking the ocean. So healing! Woke up to exotic birds and majestic sunrise. If you are seeking true peace and serenity, Maui Retreat is the place to go! And if you look closely, you may catch a glimpse of a whale or two!

What a breathtaking experience! The Maui Eco Retreat was perfect and exactly what we where looking for. We currently live in Honolulu and wanted a true off the grid mini vacation. The Eco Retreat feels very isolated, yet its only a couple minutes drive to the nearest town. From the drive to the home to unlocking all the wonderful trails, it was an adventure behind every corner. We look forward to coming back and sharing this peaceful sanctuary again and again.

Our one-week stay at the retreat was fabulous! It was the perfect setting for a relaxed and magical experience. We enjoyed meeting the other guests and made some very synchronistic connections in this space. Every structure was intricately and intentionally adorned with beautiful art pieces and sacred objects. The energy of the property is truly special. Thank you, Kutira and Raphael. You have created an enchanting space to share.
